WEMOM!

Electronic Music Open Mic nights – EMOMs – are popping up around the world and, on multiple visits, we’ve found this particular event to be as absorbing as it is avant-garde. As eye-popping as it is genre-bending…

WEMOM – the relatively new, independent Wells Electronic Music Open Mic night in Somerset was founded by James Newman and Ken Peel. Both esteemed artists in their own right, although they are yet to perform at the event themselves. Instead, they’ve remained behind the scenes and given a platform for talent from all age groups and genres, sub-genres and sub-sub-genres.

Over their last five events, we’ve seen WEMOM showcase 3lli3 L33, Analogue Brewing Process, Bernardo Bortolin Kerr, Civil Beasts, Coffin Fire, Danny Stokes, Disorganism, Falling Abyss, Headcleaner, Ian J Cole, Jasper, Jeff Leopard, Kayla Painter, Look, Stranger!, Martin Christie, Mote, Nick Tarleton, Roadster, Samplehead, Sona Vida, Subduktion and Supamanuka*.

As Ken and James told Long Live Vinyl, “We started an Electronic Music Open Mic in Wells, a small town in a rural county, thinking it would be a one-off and wondering if anyone would turn up… But this is turning into something: a scene, yes, but better still, a community. All styles, genres, ages and abilities are welcome.”

What does the Long Live Vinyl gold label signify? It means that whoever or whatever it’s awarded to is the best it possibly could be. So if that’s a record store, it’s one you absolutely have to visit in your lifetime. If it’s a release or a reissue, it’s one that you absolutely won’t be disappointed by. In short, unmissable.
