Ahead of the band’s The End tour next year, the West Midlands’ dark lords of heavy metal have returned with their latest ensemble of classic tracks spanning the bands early career, between 1970 and 1978. As you’d hope with anything with such a bold title, this compilation, which was remastered by renowned engineer Andy Pearce, doesn’t disappoint.

It contains 31 of the band’s best known tracks, including Paranoid, N.I.B., War Pigs, Children Of The Grave and the beautifully seductive Black Sabbath itself. However, it isn’t all about the music as, in addition to the standard CD and digital download editions, there’s a limited-edition version, consisting of four heavyweight vinyl albums, packaged in what they’ve termed a ‘Crucifold’ sleeve, which opens out into the shape of a crucifix, featuring portraits of the band’s original members. This really is a smorgasbord of delights for all connoisseurs of Sabbath’s dark musical art, and with Christmas just around the corner, I’d recommend you start dropping the hints right now.
