As the decade drew to a close, Jon Hopkins and Kelly Lee Owens were proud to present Luminous Spaces, their new collaborative single, which is out now.
The duo have slowly built a working relationship over the past few years, sharing the same bill in both a live capacity and on DJ line-ups across the globe. Luminous Spaces marks their first official recording together.
Both Hopkins’ and Owens’ work perfectly complements each other here on Luminous Spaces; Jon Hopkins’ transcendent, dancefloor-focussed electronics paired with Owens’ entrancing, often spiritual vocals and her ethereal techno production creates a euphoric electronic collaboration. The track, originally destined to be a remix of Hopkins’ Luminous Beings by Owens, morphed into a track in its own right following the pair working closely in the studio together on the track.
Over the course of five solo albums—as well as collaborations with Brian Eno, David Lynch and King Creosote, and film scores for The Lovely Bones and Monsters—Hopkins has forged a reputation for music that marries the dancefloor to the devotional, and for live performances that are visceral, generous, charged with a rapt, sensuous beauty.
Described as bridging the gaps between cavernous techno, spectral pop, and krautrock’s mechanical pulse, Kelly Lee Owens became notorious for her energetic, engaging live shows and DJ sets and more recently also as an in-demand remixer, working with Bjork, Mount Kimbie, St Vincent and Jenny Hval. Her debut self-titled album was released via Smalltown Supersound in 2017.
