A demo copy of The Beatles’ 1962 single Love Me Do has broken the record for the most expensive 7-inch ever sold.
The Fab Four’s first demonstration single for Parlophone has been officially confirmed as selling through Discogs for $14,757 (£11,250), breaking the previously held Discogs sales record for a 7″ single.
Released on October 5, 1962, it was one of only 250 copies issued with McCartney (McArtney) incorrectly spelled in the writing credit. The single was purchased through Discogs nearly 55 years to the day of release, having sold on October 9, 2017.
It fell just short of the overall record sale $15,000 for a 1987 promo copy of Prince’s ‘The Black Album’.
