Stone Crush
Light In The Attic Records plans to add another jewel to their crown with Stone Crush: Memphis Modern Soul 1977-1987, an overview of the modern soul scene of Bluff City’s post-Stax years. A decade in the making, compiled by renowned Memphis collectors and DJs Daniel Mathis and Chad Weekley, Stone Crush is a highly curated anthology of home-grown Memphis stylings.
The compilation covers a wonderful range, from the ‘Singing Dentist’ O.T. Sykes’ private press soul to the bedroom funk of Captain Fantastic & Starfleet. These are rare sides whose original copies are considered holy grails by DJs and collectors the world over. The accompanying full-colour booklet includes unseen archival photos and extensive liner notes made by Memphis curator/writer Andria Lisle and Grammy Award-winning writer Robert Gordon.
